Court Sentences Sandeep Lamichhane To 8 years In Prison

The Kathmandu District Court has handed an 8-year prison sentence to cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who was accused of rape. The verdict was announced by a bench of Shishir Raj Dhakal. Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal  also ordered Lamichhane to compensate the victim with a sum of 500,000 rupees.

Lamichhane had previously been convicted, and the court had scheduled the announcement of the fine and sentence for January 10.

According to Section 219 (2) of the National Penal Code Act, 2017, engaging in sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent or with a girl child below eighteen years, even with her consent, is considered rape. Section 219 (3) delineates the corresponding imprisonment terms based on the circumstances and age of the victim.
