KATHMANDU: Rape-accused suspended cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane was arrested immediately at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Thursday morning. Lamichhane was accused by a 17-year-old of raping her in a Kathmandu hotel before he flew to Nairobi to play bilateral series with Kenya on August 22.
Police have issued an arrest warrant against him. Meanwhile, Nepal Police on September 27 circulated a diffusion notice, requesting Interpol member states to arrest Lamichhane. The girl filed a complaint against Lamichhane at Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala, on September 6.
He came to Nepal nearly one month after the accusation.
